The Floating Islands

of the Uros

Since our beginnings, in Uros Samarana Uta Lodge Sustainability has been a core value. We are committed to preserving this incredible place and creating a truly sustainable property.
Our lodge is built with cattail, a native plant that grows in the lake reserve. We strongly believe in supporting the local economy: we sell handicrafts made by our artisans, hire native staff, and develop programs to benefit our community and the local school.
Visitors can also participate in our sustainable development program, either by transplanting a primary seedling to a secondary growth area or by visiting our local school, where they can share a beautiful tour with the children.
We are dedicated to treating our beloved with respect and gratitude Qota Mama, known as the “Mother Lake”, for all the abundance it offers us.

Design and

Construction

Uros Samarana Uta Lodge It is maintained only by reeds, which help to preserve and sustain the floating island.

All of our rooms are built almost entirely with reed and wood. We are the builders of our floating islands. We use traditional tools and our ancestral skills to construct each space, respecting both the environment and the people who inhabit this ancient culture. We strive to maintain traditional construction methods, not only to preserve the cultural landscape but also to mitigate potential environmental damage.

Eco-Friendly Amenities

  • Our electricity comes from solar panels.
    The dining room is heated by an independent gas system.

  • All lighting, interior and exterior, uses low voltage light bulbs solar-powered.

  • To reduce water and detergent consumption, We do not perform daily changes of sheets and towelsWe encourage our guests to consider the environmental impact of their stay.

  • We use ecological powder detergents.

  • We offer personal hygiene products (soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner) 100 % ecological.

 

Breakfasts and Lunches

  • All our meals are prepared with fresh local ingredients and products organic.

  • We offer a selection of specialty spirits and wines, available at an additional cost.

Recycling and Waste Management

  • We recycle all waste paper, glass, and metal at a local recycling center.

  • We are taking steps to minimize paper use.

  • The coffee we offer is organic and/or of Fair Trade.

 

Sustainable Activities

We offer a wide variety of local activities with low environmental impact.

You can also opt for additional tours, available for an additional cost.

 

Wildlife Protection

We actively promote the care of native birds and work to protect them from hunting.
